Month-long flower shows in districts of north Bengal

The State Forest Department’s Parks and Gardens North Division, in charge of north Bengal, has decided to showcase the diverse flora of the region through a series of flower shows in the districts of the region. Entry to the flower shows will be free.
The almost a month-long series of flower shows began on January 12 in Cooch Behar and will end on February 9 in Malbazar. The other places to host the shows would be Falakata on January 14, Balurghat on January 19, Islampur on January 23, Dhupguri on January 26, Alipurduar on January 27, Jalpaiguri on February 2 and again in Cooch Behar on February 6.
The department has also decided to encourage people to have more plants in their homes, having adopted the theme, ‘Keep your homes clean and green’.
The focus of the shows will be on school and college students in order to inculcate their interest in plants, to understand the important fact that plants are natural air purifiers and gift us a clean environment, said a senior official of the Forest Department.
The flower shows will include plant sculptures for the first time, to be displayed at the shows at Teesta Udyan in Jalpaiguri and at NN Park in Cooch Behar.
