Model fair price shop inaugurated at a tea garden in Jalpaiguri
The Bengal Government’s Food and Supplies Department is going to set up fair price shops (FPS) in 303 tea gardens. In fact, quite a few have already been set up. The work would be completed by March. Self-help groups (SHG), comprising entirely of women, will run the shops.
These were stated by the Minister for Food and Supplies on February 12, after a review meeting at Uttarkanya, the north Bengal secretariat. He also inaugurated a model fair price shop at Karala Valley Tea Garden in Jalpaiguri district. He said the cost of construction of each set of shop and warehouse is Rs 9.46 lakh.
The district magistrates are identifying the land required for the project, near the main entrance of each tea plantation. Alongside the shops will be a warehouse for each.
In Jalpaiguri district, the construction of shops and warehouses in 50 of the 87 tea gardens is over.
Workers and non-workers and their families would be able to get rice and other foodgrains at a rate of Rs 2 per kg per person.

শুধু চা বাগানে কাজ করা নয়, এবার বাগানের রেশন ব্যবস্থাও চালাবেন মহিলা শ্রমিকরা।
১২ই ফেব্রুয়ারী করলাভ্যালি চা বাগানে মহিলা চা শ্রমিকদের স্বনির্ভর গোষ্ঠী পরিচালিত রেশন দোকানের উদ্বোধন করলেন খাদ্যমন্ত্রী। তাঁর কথায় শুধু রাজ্যে নয়, সারা দেশেই চা বলয়ে এই ধরনের উদ্যোগ এই প্রথম।
খাদ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, উত্তরবঙ্গের ৩০০টি বাগানেই এই ব্যবস্থা চালু করা হচ্ছে। প্রতিটি বাগানের জমিতেই সরকারি টাকায় তৈরি করা হচ্ছে রেশন দোকান। এবং রেশন মজুত রাখার গুদাম। প্রতিটি গুদাম এবং দোকান তৈরিতে খরচ হচ্ছে সাড়ে আট লক্ষ টাকা। মন্ত্রী জানান, শ্রমিক পরিবারগুলি এখান থেকে দু’টাকা মূল্যে চাল-সহ অন্যান্য রেশন সামগ্রী পাবেন।
জলপাইগুড়ি জেলার ৮৭টি চা বাগানের মধ্যে ৫০টি বাগানে দোকান এবং গুদাম তৈরির কাজ শেষ। করলাভ্যালি চা বাগান দিয়ে যার সূচনা হয়ে গেল। মার্চের মধ্যেই বাকি বাগানগুলিতে এই ব্যবস্থা চালু করে দেওয়া হবে বলে খাদ্যমন্ত্রী জানিয়েছেন।
