Manufacturing sanitary napkins empowering women in Dakshin Dinajpur
Women from the Alo self-help group in the district of Dakshin Dinajpur are achieving economic self-sufficiency through the manufacturing of sanitary napkins. The district Health Department is leading the project.
The department has already placed orders for 90,000 sanitary napkins. The State Government organisation, Manjusha is also packaging these napkins.
At Rs 4 per piece, the product is affordable for everyone. Add to that the superior quality, and you have a very good product.
The women from the group are earning well. In fact, so much have the sales been that Alo has opened accounts with cooperative banks at three places in the district.
Alo’s sanitary napkin has already made a name for itself in the district. The same goes for its pickles, tomato sauce and other products. Shops across the district are selling them, alongside well-known branded products.
