Mamata Banerjee sets up committee to tackle environmental woes

The state government has set up a six-member committee headed by the Chief Secretary, to look into environment issues.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while inaugurating a community Durga Puja in Behala, expressed her deep concern over the key issues related to the environment. Referring to the annual report on environment 2017, published by the United Nations, she said that awareness is required to preserve nature.
The CM said it is a tragedy that people don’t keep the areas where they live clean. “We have installed compactors throughout the state but despite that people are throwing garbage into the waterbodies. This is wrong,” she said.
Earlier, she had raised the slogan “Save Green, Stay Clean”.
