Lightning catchers to come up in all parks in Kolkata
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to install lightning catchers in all its parks. The process has already been kicked off with the setting up of four such devices at Deshapriya Park.
The move is aimed at preventing mishaps to those who are in the parks during lightning strikes as well as protecting the solar panels which are being fitted in parks across the length and breadth of the city. Hence parks that have solar panels will be installed with lightning catchers first.
Next on the list, after Deshapriya Prak, are Maddox Square, Jatin Das Park, Deshbandhu Park and Parnasree Park.
KMC is the custodian of as many as 700 parks spanning across 144 wards of the civic body. The civic body has already installed solar panels in a number of parks in the city, with the aim of reducing electricity bills. More parks are gradually being fitted solar panels.
