KMC launches malaria, dengue prevention app
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has launched a smartphone app aimed exclusively at the prevention of vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria, etc. This is also India’s first app for vector-borne diseases.
The app, called KMC Health Application, can be downloaded by clicking here.
It was launched on August 30 for Android phones. iPhone users can access the app from September 7.
In the last few years, the KMC has done commendable work in preventing vector-borne diseases. This is another step in that direction. The State Government has already given Rs 4 crore to KMC to carry out massive awareness programmes to prevent dengue and malaria.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has instructed all the civic bodies to conduct garbage cleaning drives regularly and take immediate steps when people suffering from fever are detected in their areas.
The app can be read in four languages – English, Bengali, Hindi and Urdu. In fact, choosing the language is the first step one needs to do on opening the app, which is a very useful step indeed.
It contains the symptoms of dengue and malaria, along with the dos and don’ts that need to be followed to prevent occurrences.
The addresses of all the 144 malaria detection centres and 15 dengue detection centres have been provided, as well as the telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of key persons in KMC’s Health Department.
The people will also get information about new announcements of KMC’s Health department through the app.
