KMC getting ready for flower shows across the city

With the onset of winter and the resultant plethora of flower shows to be held across the city, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s (KMC) Parks and Gardens Department is laying special emphasis on the growth of seasonal flowers in its nurseries.
A number of flower exhibitions and competitions are scheduled in the months of January and February, and the KMC, with the plethora of seasonal flowers that it grows, takes part in the big ones. The KMC has been winning prizes on a regular basis at many of these exhibitions.
The flower shows will be held at the State Assembly, Calcutta High Court and the Agri Horticultural Society of India (AHSI) in Alipore, and several others. Flower shows are held in all of the 16 boroughs of the KMC during January and February.
There are as many as 15 nurseries under KMC and more than eight of these grow quality flowers in winter to cater to the various flower shows held across the city.
According to an official of the civic body, there is team of contractual gardeners who are engaged in our different plantation programmes throughout the year, the best among whom are mobilised for growing flowers for these high-profile shows.
