Kishore Bharati Krirangan to be upgraded to international standards

The Kishore Bharati Krirangan, popularly known as Jadavpur Stadium, located in Santoshpur, will be upgraded to international standards.
With the highly successful hosting of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in October 2017 (at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Stadium), Kolkata as a city capable of hosting big sporting events has come to the fore. Hence, the State Government has come up with this idea.
The parts of the stadium complex to be renovated are the field, ten galleries and drainage system. The floodlight system will be completely overhauled. To be newly built are an air-conditioned dressing room with all modern facilities, press box and several other parts.
This is a multi-crore project, with just the renovation of the galleries to cost Rs 3 crore. The State Public Works Department (PWD) will be overseeing the project. Tenders have already been called by the department.
The Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri is also being upgraded to international standards, while the Barasat Stadium is being renovated by Sports Department.
The Trinamool Congress Government, over the last seven years, has built 45 stadiums of various sizes. Besides these, the Sports Department is also providing funds to civic bodies to renovate the sports fields under their jurisdictions.
Thus the government is trying its best to inculcate a sporting culture across the State, which has also resulted in the organisation of tournaments like the Jangalmahal Cup, Himal-Terai-Dooars Sports Festival and Sundarban Cup, where lakhs of youths take part. Besides being given medals and other prizes, several of the successful athletes are also being provided employment as civic volunteers and home guards.
