July 12 to be observed as ‘Save Water Day’ in Bangla: CM

The state government announced a special day for raising awareness about water conservation. Speaking at the inauguration of a new trauma care centre at SSKM Hospital, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that it is necessary to take corrective action from now, to combat the situation of water scarcity in various parts of the country. She announced that from now on, every year the State Government will observe July 12 as ‘Save Water Day’.
On this day, the Chief Minister said that she will herself participate in an awareness walk on July 12. The padyatra will begin from Jorasanko at 3 PM and continue till the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
She also said that since 2013, the State Government has been celebrating Mati Utsab. In 2015, the UN recognised the festival and it is now being observed across the world. The State Government also celebrates August 14 as Kanyasree Dibas. Along similar lines, July 12 will now be observed as ‘Save Water Day’.
