Jessop factory in Dumdum reopens after WB Govt intervention

After the intervention of Mamata Banerjeeled West Bengal Government, city-based engineering company Jessop & Coreopened its factory today at Jessore Road, Dumdum.

“The tripartite meeting on Jessop wasfruitful and it will reopen on either August 9 or 14,” Labour Minister MrMalay Ghatak had told reporters after the last tripartite meeting on August 6.He said a monitoring committee would be formed which would examine thefeasibility of productivity demanded by the company management. The committeewould submit its report in a month's time.

Jessop & Co declared suspension of workat its Dumdum unit on May 15. It employs 685 workers.

Today, WB Industry Minister Dr Amit Mitra,Labour Minister Mr Moloy Ghatak and Dumdum MP Saugata Roy were present on theoccasion, along with the company management. Dr Mitra said that the reopeningof Jessop is another example of Mamata Banerjee's commitment toindustrialization by protecting labour rights.

“The credit for reopening Jessop goesentirely to the Labour Minister and the Ruias (who run the company now). Jessophas a great heritage. We have to continue the tradition in future also,” the FinanceMinister said, adding that there is a need to work like a family; every familyhas internal differences but those can be overcome. He also stressed onfulfilling the Corporate Social Responsibility by the management.
