IT Dept forms body for using AI for bettering public services

The State Information Technology and Electronics (IT&E) Department has formed a core group which will interact with various stakeholders and prepare a repository of case studies of projects involving artificial intelligence (AI). Such cases will be taken up which can be adapted by various departments of the State Government.
The IT Minister, while addressing a Knowledge Workshop on AI at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre on Friday, said that the government has already conceptualised and kick-started a Centre of Innovation to leverage emerging technologies like fintech, AI and blockchain. According to him, the State Government believes that it can use AI for improving public services. Hence the decision to form the above-mentioned core group was has been taken up.
The group will comprise of four members and will be headed by additional chief secretary (IT). It will work upon good practices of AI and will form a strategy on machine training at the various IT parks of the State Government in the districts.
The additional chief secretary (IT), who was also present at the workshop, said that since AI requires a huge amount of data customisation, the machine training programmes being planned have the potential to create a lot of jobs.
The IT Minister said that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the State is emerging a leader in emerging technologies like AI, fintech, blockchain and cyber security.
The workshop, which deliberated on the use of AI in business, governance, industry and in transforming processes, saw participation from students, young and experienced professionals, academicians, entrepreneurs and industry representatives.
