Homestays to come up in the lap of nature in Jhargram

After Purulia and Alipurduar, homestays will be given a push in Jhargram district. The forest-dominated district has a lot of potential in tourism and homestays are a major enabler towards fulfilling that potential.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during the administrative review meeting in Jhargram on November 26, instructed the district magistrate to set up at least 100 homestays.
Proposals will be taken up with house-owners with spare rooms and other amenities for setting up homestays, by the district administration in Belpahari, Kankrajhore, Gopiballavpur and other places.
Building hotels and resorts requires a lot of capital expenditure; homestays, on the other hand, need minimal additions in terms of infrastructure. Homestays will bring in many more tourists and that will help the local economy too. For example, local handicrafts and food products will find many more buyers.
The district administration is now going full steam ahead with setting up as many homestays as possible.
