High tide of development in Jalpaiguri

Jalpaiguri has witnessed phenomenal growth and development in the last seven and a half years. From the operationalisation of Circuit Bench to the setting up of a branch Secretariat Uttar Kanya, the district has witnessed a lot of change.

Uttarkanya: A new secretariat for north Bengal, Uttarkanya, started functioning in 2014.

Circuit bench: On March 9, 2019, pursuant of a long-standing demand of the region, a circuit bench of Calcutta High Court was inaugurated in Jalpaiguri, by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Health: 2 multi-superspeciality hospitals, 1 rural hospital, 4 fair-price medicine shops, 2 fair-price diagnostic centres, free beds, 7 SNSUs, 2 SNCUs, 1 HDU, 1 Mother and Child Hub, 1 dialysis unit, 1 blood bank, 1 sub-health centre (Rangamati Tea Garden), 1 Breastfeeding Centre, 1 morgue (both in Jalpaiguri District Hospital); work on medical college in Jalpaiguri, 1 nursing training school, 1 health centre at Bhorer Alo Eco-tourism Hub, 1 HDU, 2 dialysis units, 1 morgue, renovation of 2 rural hospitals, modernisation of 23 primary health centres, 15 sub-health centres going on

Schools: 371 schools and 2 model schools established, 90 schools’ levels upgraded

Scholarships: More than 3.67 lakh students under Kanyashree, more than 2.78 lakh students under Sikshashree

Higher education: 2 government degree colleges; 4 ITIs; 2 polytechnic colleges

Housing: About 25,000 people benefitted from housing schemes, including rural housing

Mission Nirmal Bangla: Jalpaiguri declared 100% ODF district – Nirmal Zilla

Kisan Mandi: 6 Kisan Mandis set up

Industry: 2 industrial parks, 3 MSME clusters, Biswa Bangla Shilpa Haat in Kawakhali; bank loans worth Rs 2,266 crore given for small-scale industry

Roads & bridges: 967km of roads built/repaired/widened, work for 615km started; 2 bridges; 72% of Asian Highway-2 and 65% of Asian Highway-48

Tourism: Bhorer Alo Eco-Tourism Hub in Gajoldoba; Dooars Mega-Circuit Project, comprising Satkhiya, Mangalbari, Chalsa, Paschim Damdim, Khukshiya Udyan, Neora and Lataguri; projects in Chamurchi, Moulani Park, Ramsai and Madhubani Park

Development boards: 16 development boards created for 16 communities in the district for the communities’ social development and cultural well-being

Samajik Suraksha Yojana: About 2.4 lakh unorganised labourers enlisted

Karmatirtha: 11 Karmatirthas built

Sports: 80 multi-gyms and 9 mini indoor stadiums; Biswa Bangla Krirangan in Jalpaiguri renovated
