All the tourist lodges belonging to the State Tourism Department are going to be upgraded to three-star level, by adding several new facilities. With more and more tourists arriving from across the country as well as from overseas, the upgrading is very necessary.

In the pipeline are rooms with all modern amenities, better furniture, swimming pools, gym with trainer, bars, restaurants with several cuisine options, libraries, parking lots, water treatment plants, fire-fighting facilities, landscaped surroundings including lily pools.

The first phase of work has already been started, which involves the upgrading of 25 tourist lodges. Tenders have been called from architecture firms for designing the lodges. The cost has been estimated to be Rs 100 crore as of now.

Among the lodges to be upgraded in the first phase are Darjeeling Tourist Lodge, Tilabari and Murti Tourist lodges in the Dooars, Mainak Tourist Lodge in Siliguri and Larica Tourist Lodge in Digha.
