Germany, Poland interested in investing in Bangla
New vistas are opening up for Bangla in the area of foreign investment. Recently, at the annual general meeting of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in which the State Finance Minister was also present, the ambassador of Poland and the director-general of Indo-German Chamber of Commerce said that investors in their respective countries were very interested in Bangla as investment destination.
The former said that several companies from his country were interested in investing in the mining industry, especially coal, the largest new deposit of which has been found in the State. In fact, Poland participated in the last Bengal Global Business Summit and the State Government had signed a memorandum of understanding with the provincial Silesian government in this regard.
The German representative at the seminar said that investors from his country were quite eager to participate in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector, in which Bangla is the leader in the country. German too has held investment-related discussions with the State Government.
The State Finance Minister, Dr Mitra said that the way infrastructure and investments are being ramped up, Bengal is well on its way of achieving the target of 50 million dollars worth of exports in the next two to three years. According to him, the State has witnessed a growth of 11 per cent in export in the last fiscal.
Dr Amit Mitra also gave out other numbers that prove that Bangla’s economy is one of the best among the States and bests that of the country’s as a whole too in many respects. Bangla has already crossed the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) mark of Rs 10 lakh crore. The State grew by 16.29 per cent, services grew by 9.2 per cent, industry grew by 6.29 per cent; in terms of Gross Value Added (GVA), the State grew by 9.59 per cent and in terms of Index of Industrial Production (IIP), by 9 per cent.
