Four new Hydro Projects coming up in north Bengal

A MoU amongst the West Bengal government, West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL)and NHPC was signed at Kolkata for development of four Hydro Projects with total capacity of 293 MW in Teesta Basin. Projects are – 80 MW Teesta Low Dam-V, 81 MW Teesta Low Dam I & II combined, 84 MW Teesta Intermediate Stage, and 48 MW Rammam Stage-I all located in Darjeeling of West Bengal. These projects will be developed on Build, Own, Operate and Maintain (BOOM) basis by NHPC Limited.

The development of the above four hydro projects on Teesta and Rangit Rivers shall not only ease the power scenario in North Bengal by harnessing its untapped hydropower potential but it will also help the infrastructural & socio-economic development of the area. This apart, NHPC also has already commissioned 132 MW TLD-III Power Station near Rambi, Darjeeling in 2013 and 160 MW TLDP-IV HE project in Kalijhora is under advanced stage of completion and is likely to be completed by June, 2016.
