Economic upliftment of Adivasis through animal rearing

To improve the economic condition of the tribal people, the Bangla Government is giving for free chickens, and baby goats and pigs, for rearing and selling, to Adivasis in six districts of the State. Two more districts would be inducted next year.

The species being provided, which have been found to be particularly suited to the climate of the State, are the Black Bengal goats, Bonraja hens and Ghungru pigs. The State Animal Resources Department is also providing hands-on training in rearing these.

Every family is being provided four goats, 20 hens and three pigs. In the first phase these would be given to 183 families and in the second phase, to 246 families.
