Eco Park witnesses record turnout on New Year
Eco Park created a world record on January 1, when 1.38 lakh people visited the park located around a 122-acre lake. Many of these visited the well-known Mother’s Wax Museum opposite Eco Park too.
To compare some of the numbers, almost 1 lakh people congregated on the bank of the Thames to see New Year celebratory fireworks and about 75,000 congregated in Edinburgh, capital of Scotland to witness fireworks.
A park of such a scale, not just with respect to size but also to what it contains – manicured gardens (including a Japanese garden), special sculpture zones, replicas of seven architectural wonders of the world, light-and-sound show, butterfly garden-cum-breeding centre, huge lake with boating and cruising facilities, space for adventure sports and some more – is a rarity anywhere, and it is definitely one-of-a-kind in India. And to top it all, all these come with an entrance fee of only Rs 30, which is nothing when compared to what similar parks elsewhere in the world charge.
The park itself and all it contains has been possible because of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s love for the environment. She had wanted to gift the people of Bengal with a unique park, and she did it. In fact, she named it ‘Prakriti Tirtha’, which translates to ‘Environmental Pilgrimage’.
নববর্ষের দিন ইকো পার্কে রেকর্ড ভিড়
২০১১ সালে ক্ষমতায় আসার পর এক সময় কলকাতা বিমানবন্দর থেকে ফিরছিলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। ফেরার পথে, এই এলাকাকে সাজিয়ে তলার নির্দেশ দেন। বাকিটা ইতিহাস। গড়ে ওঠে ‘ইকো পার্ক’।
পৃথিবীর অন্য কোনও প্রান্তে এই আয়তনের বিনোদনের অপার সৌন্দর্য নিয়ে ইকো পার্কের মতো অন্য যে পার্কগুলি রয়েছে, তাতে প্রবেশ করার ক্ষেত্রে আগতদের বিপুল পরিমাণ অর্থ খরচ করতে হয়। সেখানে ইকো পার্কে প্রবেশ করতে দিতে হয়ে জন পিছু মাত্র ৩০ টাকা। আর বিশ্বের সপ্তম আশ্চর্যগুলির প্রতিকৃতিগুলোকে প্রত্যক্ষ করতে দিতে হয় মাত্র ২০ টাকা। বিশ্বে আর কোনও বিনোদন পার্কে এতো কম মুল্যে প্রবেশ করা যায় না। মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের উদ্যোগেই তা সফল হয়েছে।
এবার ২০১৮ সালের শুরুর দিনেই দেশের তো বটেই এমনকি লন্ডন এবং এডিনবার্গকে হারিয়ে সারা ভারতের শ্রেষ্ঠ পার্ক হিসেবে তুলে ধরল ইকো পার্ক। বর্ষবরনের রাতে টেমস নদীর ধারে প্রায় ১ লক্ষ মানুষ আতসবাজির খেলা দেখতে জড় হয়েছিলেন, এডিনবার্গে রাতে ফায়ারওয়ার্কস দেখতে এসেছিলেন ৭৫হাজার মানুষ।
সব ভিড়কে পেছনে ফেলে নববর্ষের দিন ইকো পার্কের ১২২ একর দিঘির পাশে ঘুরে এলেন ১ লক্ষ ৩৮ হাজার মানুষ। উল্টোদিকে মাদার্স ওয়াক্স মিউজিয়ামেও লক্ষ করা গেছে অগুন্তি আনন্দমুখর মানুষের ঢল।
