Damaged houses to be rebuilt, cracked ones to be repaired: Didi
A meeting was called at Nabanna by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today in the aftermath of several houses either crashing or developing major cracks and their residents having to evacuate following water and mud leakage in the East-West Metro tunnel.
A core group headed by the chief secretary has been set up by the Chief Minister to deal with all issues. The other members of the committee are the home secretary, police commissioner, Mayor, MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, representatives of the affected families and a few officers from Metro Railway.
Experts would be consulted to ensure that people do not have to face such a situation in future. In all, people from 52 houses have been evacuated and would have to be given accommodation till their houses are rebuilt or repaired. The Government would be helping the Metro Railway, the Chief Minister said.
Decisions taken during the meeting at Nabanna:
Metro Railway to rebuild affected houses and shops
Let affected inhabitants be given temporary residence in the building owned by Metro near Gem Cinema
Till rebuilt houses are handed over, temporary residences or rent to be arranged by Metro
Business-owners affected to be given compensation on a monthly basis
Residents can go back to the houses still intact to recover important documents, taking one person each from the KMC, police, Metro Railway and Disaster Management & Civil Defence Department.
CCTV cameras to be set up at and near evacuated houses to ensure no documents/items get stolen
Those who have lost Aadhaar, Voter ID or ration cards, or certificates, should get in touch with the Govt control room and/or police
As a humanitarian gesture, affected families should be given Rs 5 lakh each immediately
