Comprehensive development in Paschim Bardhaman
The new district of Paschim Bardhaman was created by the Trinamool Congress Government, on April 7, 2017 after bifurcation of the erstwhile Bardhaman district.
Highlights of the developmental work in the district:
Health: 1 multi-super speciality hospital, 2 fair-price medicine shops, 2 fair-price diagnostic centres, 7 SNSUs, 2 SNCUs, 2 CCUs, 2 HDUs; 1 nursing college coming up, ESI Hospital being renovated
Scholarships: More than 47,000 students under Kanyashree, more than 50,000 students under Sikshashree
Higher education: Kazi Nazrul University set up, 1 government degree college, 1 ITI (another one being renovated)
Kisan Mandi: 1 Kisan Mandi set up
100 Days’ Work: More than 68 lakh man-days created from FY 2013-14 to 2018-19
Housing: More than 23,000 people benefitted from housing schemes, including rural housing; housing for 45,000 more being constructed
Mission Nirmal Bangla: Paschim Bardhaman declared Nirmal Zilla, being 100% ODF
Industry: 1 industrial park (in Panagarh), 1 industrial estate, 7 MSME clusters (including 15 MSME clusters, 2 IT parks, bank loans worth Rs 8,300 crore given to MSMEs
Roads & bridges: About 530 km of roads built/repaired/widened; 6-lane bypass in Panagarh, 2 bridges built in FY 2018-19 (2 more coming up)
Airport: Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport in Andal developed as India’s first greenfield airport
Hospitality: State Government’s first hotel management, ‘Aharan’ opened in Durgapur
Samajik Suraksha Yojana: More than 2.7 lakh unorganised labourers enlisted
Karmatirtha: 10 Karmatirthas functioning
Sports: 17 multi-gyms, 1 mini indoor stadium
