Comprehensive development in Birbhum
The district of Birbhum has seen large-scale development in all sectors.
Highlights of the developmental work:
Health: New health district of Rampurhat formed, medical college in Rampurhat, 3 multi-super speciality hospital, 4 fair-price medicine shops, 6 fair-price diagnostic centres, 14 SNSUs, 3 SNCUs, 3 CCUs, 3 HDUs; for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM), nutritious food supplied at anganwadi centres and special food in the form of Nutrimix and nutritious laddus supplied for feeding at home; a special Continuous Monitoring System for such children set up
School education: In 7.5 years, 318 schools set up, levels of 127 schools upgraded, 5 model schools, 1 integrated model school
Scholarships: More than 1.99 lakh students under Kanyashree, more than 3.24 lakh students under Sikshashree
Higher education: Biswa Bangla University being set up, 3 polytechnic colleges, 7 ITIs
Kisan Mandi: 13 Kisan Mandis set up
100 Days’ Work: More than 10.96 crore man-days created from FY 2013-14 to 2018-19
Housing: More than 3.09 lakh people benefitted from housing schemes, including rural housing
Mission Nirmal Bangla: Birbhum declared Nirmal Zilla, being 100% ODF
Industry: Country’s largest coal mine in Deocha-Pachami being developed; 1 industrial estate, 1 Industrial Growth Centre, 11 MSME clusters (including 1 Project Muslin cluster in Rampurhat, 1 brass cluster in Ilambazar, 2 potter clusters), bank loans worth Rs 5,032 crore given to MSMEs; a Tussar Silk Yarn and Fabric Production Centre coming up in Tatipara, Rajnagar block
Roads & bridges: About 2,940km of roads built/repaired/widened; 1 bridge built in FY 2018-19 (1 more coming up)
Airport: Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport in Andal developed as India’s first greenfield airport
Tourism: Tourist centre, Ranga Bitan with 10 collages set up, Tarapith Temple and Data Baba Mazar in Patharchapuri renovated; Joydeb-Kenduli Baul Academy set up; another tourism centre, Baul Bitan coming up; Kankalitala Temple and surrounding area being renovated
Samajik Suraksha Yojana: More than 3.79 lakh unorganised labourers enlisted
Karmatirtha: 23 Karmatirthas functioning
Sports: 150 multi-gyms, 36 mini indoor stadiums, 5 playgrounds developed
