Communal forces trying to foment tension in Bengal: WB CM
West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee said that she will fight communal forces in Bengal who are trying to foment communal tensions in the State.
The Chief Minister said at the inauguration ceremony of a Kali Puja in South Kolkata that the business communities in the city are being harassed and the government will take all steps to protect them against any harassment.
She said that the policy of this government is to honour all religions, castes and creed. “There are attempts being made to disturb the communal harmony and that will not be tolerated,” said the Chief Minister. She reiterated that she will be continuing to work for the people and will act as a guard for the people of the state.
“Just as you do not target the entire Marwari society for the folly of a person from Rajasthan and just as you do not blame the entire Bihari population for the wrongdoing of a single Bihari, you have no right to malign the entire Muslim community for the wrongdoing of a few persons,” she said.
She said that a criminal was a criminal irrespective of the community he belonged to and an entire community could not be demonised because of his crime. She referred to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots to substantiate her argument that it was unfair to target an entire community for the crime of an individual. She said, “It is like playing with fire. I fear communal riots. Communal fire can be far more dangerous) political fire.”
