Chandannagar and Asansol to become mega cities
Chandannagar and Asansol are all set to become mega cities, State Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim announced today. He said the municipal areas of both these corporations will be expanded so that they become mega cities.
The decision was taken at the State Cabinet meeting today. Mr Hakim also announced that Mallarpur (Birbhum district) will be converted into a municipality.
Several decisions concerning the education department were also passed in today's meeting. State Education Minister Dr Partha Chatterjee announced that 100 primary schools will be upgraded to High school level and 400 high schools will be upgraded to higher secondary school. 1000 new teachers will be recruited for Madhyamik level and 1200 for Higher Secondary level.
It was also decided in today's meet that 46000 pump sets will be distributed to farmers under 'Sech Bandhu' scheme. The government will also give funds to colleges in the State to develop their own website.
