Boost for textile industry in West Bengal

The newly formed Textile Department has decided to open `Zero Balance Accounts` for weavers in the State, the Minister of State for Micro and Small-Scale Enterprises Mr Swapan Debnath announced. He also informed that the State-run textile agency Tantuja has received an outstation order from Japan for making stoles. This is probably the first time a foreign order has been received by the agency.
Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee has already announced her plans for taking up the mantle of a sari-designer; she will be lending a touch of her creativity to Tantuja saris. She has also stressed time and again on the use of organic colours for textiles produced by the state-supported textile making organizations.
After initiatives taken by the Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee, a number of positive steps have been taken by Tantuja in order to turn the organization into a profit-making one. A new project has been taken up at the popular beach town Digha, where a showroom, a warehouse and an inspection bungalow will be set up. Tantuja has received an order of more than Rs. 3 crores from the Government of Kerala too.
