Bengal to attain self-sufficiency in coal for its thermal power plants

Another good news for Bengal – by the end of this year, the State is going to attain self-sufficiency in the use of coal as fuel for its power stations. This will be possible because six mines owned by the Government would ramp up production.
This announcement was recently made by the State Power Minister. The six coal blocks are Panchwara (North), Barjora, Barjora (North), Gangaramchok-Badulia, Kasta (East) and Tara (East and West).
The minister said that the amount of coal the blocks hold is sufficient to run the State Government-owned thermal power plants at least till 2025.
Besides these six, there are the coal mines of Deocha-Pachami which were recently allotted to the State by the Central Government.
