Bengal is Number 1 in women empowerment: Mamata Banerjee
Trinamool Mahila Congress today organised a padyatra from Shraddhananda Park till Dharmatala to mark International Women’s Day. The rally was led by Mamata Banerjee. She addressed the crowds at Dharmatala after the padyatra ended.
Highlights of her speech:
Women are our pride. They are our assets. They are the backbone of the society
Many people talk of women’s reservation only before elections. Trinamool is the only party which has 35% elected women members in the Lok Sabha
Bengal has 50% reservation for women in panchayats, municipalities
We have increased child care leave for women to 730 days
We have instituted scholarships like Kanyashree and Sikshashree for students
Record 48% women have participated in the 100 Days’ Work scheme
People of different religions, castes, communities live in Bangla. We live in harmony. We do not hate each other
