Bengal Govt to start organic farming in 1,000 acres across Bengal
The State Agriculture Department has decided to bring 1,000 acres, divided into 50 clusters, under organic farming during financial year 2018-19. This was stated by the State Agriculture Minister in the Assembly on July 23.
He added that currently there are 120 clusters where organic farming is being done. Each of the clusters measures 50 acres and the clusters are spread across 13 districts – Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Uttar Dinajpur, Birbhum, Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Purba Bardhaman and Paschim Bardhaman.
Continuing on organic farming, he stated that 6,000 vermicompost pits have been set up to support organic farming. Tools for carrying out organic farming have also been provided to the farmers.
Another work carried to ensure better yield out of organic farming is the testing of 7,560 soil samples to ascertain the presence of organic carbon in the soil. Organic cultivation of crops has already started in tribal areas.
As a result of the various initiatives of the Trinamool Congress Government, the yield out of organic farming has gone up and so, more initiatives are being constantly planned.
