Bengal Govt to introduce single transport card for commuters
The State Transport Department is going to introduce a combined smart card for usage across all modes of transport – bus, tram, ferry, metro railway. This card will be launched before the Pujas.
The smart transport card was suggestion from the World Bank for the convenience of passengers, which the State Government is implementing.
It may be mentioned that all the top cities of the world have such a card system. In Japan, it is called Pasmo, in Paris, Navigo, in New York, SmartLink, and in London, Oyster.
The department is in talks with a few banks through which the cards can be refilled. The cards can also be refilled at the bus depots of the Government.
