Bengal Govt to introduce ‘Rajdhani’ Volvo bus service
Bus connectivity across Bengal has improved by leaps and bounds over the last few years with the introduction of new routes, new buses (including environment-friendly electric buses), and new-concept bus terminuses, among other facilities.
The latest feather in the cap is the ‘Rajdhani’ Volvo bus service. ‘Rajdhani’ or ‘capital city’ is the name given to the service as it would connect each district headquarters with Kolkata. The service would be introduced by the Transport Department soon.
The Department is going to completely change the road transport scenario of the state, and people will be less dependent on train services to reach Kolkata, even from the districts of north Bengal.
Already, there are several buses connecting districts with Kolkata, but the Volvo bus service is going to be one-of-its-kind.

জেলা সদরের সঙ্গে এবার কলকাতাকে সরাসরি জুড়তে পথে নামছে ‘রাজধানী ভলভো এক্সপ্রেস’ বাস। অন্যান্য বাসের থেকে এর পরিষেবা হবে ভিন্ন।
বুধবার বিধানসভায় পরিবহণ দপ্তরের বাজেট পেশ করতে গিয়ে একথা জানিয়েছেন পরিবহণ মন্ত্রী। তিনি বলেন, পরিবহণের পরিকাঠামোয় যেভাবে জোর দেওয়া হয়েছে, তাতে আগামীদিনে তার সুফল পাবেন সাধারণ মানুষ। রাজ্যের সবক’টি জেলা সদরের সঙ্গে কলকাতাকে যুক্ত করা অত্যন্ত প্রয়োজনীয় বলে মনে করা হয়েছে। গোটা পরিস্থিতি খতিয়ে দেখেই ‘রাজধানী ভলভো এক্সপ্রেস’বাস চালু করা হচ্ছে।
এই বাস প্রতিটি জেলা সদর থেকে শহরে আসবে, আবার শহর থেকে জেলা সদরে যাবে। একই সময়ে দু’দিক থেকে ছাড়বে এই বাস। মন্ত্রীর কথায়, আপাতত দু’দিক থেকে একটি করে বাস ছাড়বে। প্রথম ছ’মাস এভাবে চলার পর মানুষ এই পরিষেবাকে কীভাবে গ্রহণ করছে, তা সমীক্ষা করে দেখা হবে। তারপর পরিষেবা বৃদ্ধির কথা ভাবনাচিন্তা করা হবে।
