Bengal Govt to cultivate 3 new fish varieties at Henry’s Island

The State Fisheries Department has decided to cultivate three new fish varieties at Henry’s Island, near Bakkhali in the district of South 24 Parganas. These include Indian pompano, groupers and Indian prawn (Penaeus indicus).
The State Fisheries Development Corporation (SFDC) will release around 5.1 lakh fish seeds, ie, fertilized fish eggs, of these three varieties. About 5,000 fish seeds each of Indian pompano and groupers would be released, along with 5 lakh of the Indian prawn.
According to an SFDC official, the fishes will be made available at its outlet at Nalban Food Park, Kolkata and through its fish-selling app.
