Bengal CM inaugurates 42nd Kolkata International Book Fair
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the 42nd Kolkata International Book Fair today. The focal theme country for 2018 is France.
This is for the first time that the fair will be held at Central Park in Salt Lake.
The state Transport department will run 131 additional buses on weekdays and 177 buses on weekends to facilitate the visitors, particularly those who come from the districts by train and get down at either Howrah or Sealdah railway stations.
France Day will be observed on January 31, followed by Bangladesh Day on February 3, where some Russian authors will interact with Bengali authors.
This will be followed by Children’s Day on February 4. The Kolkata literature festival will be held from February 8 to 10.
Well known publishers from the country and abroad are taking part in the fair along with their local counterparts. One of the major attractions are five books penned by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, including a book on rhymes for children.

Today, I was present in the inauguration ceremony of 42nd International Kolkata Book Fair at Central Park, Salt Lake.
From 31st January to 11th February, 2018, it is going to be the usual celebration with books here in this great event in Kolkata.
Soumitra Chatterjee was felicitated in today’s programme for his outstanding contribution to the world of creativity.
This year, the theme country is France. Mr Alexander Ziegler, HE Ambassador of France was present on the occasion.
I also inaugurated stalls of Kolkata Police, West Bengal Police and “Jago Bangla”.
9 books authored by me, including 2 translated versions in Santali and Hindi of my earlier works, have been published today from the book fair. With these, the number of books authored by me during the spare time I can manage goes up to 79.
The next Kolkata Book Fair will be inaugurated on 19th January, 2019.

কলকাতা বইমেলার উদ্বোধন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী
বিধাননগর সেন্ট্রাল পার্কে ৪২তম আন্তর্জাতিক কলকাতা বইমেলার উদ্বোধন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা ব্যানার্জি। বইমেলা চলবে ১১ ফেব্রুয়ারি পর্যন্ত। উপস্থিত ছিলেন ফরাসি রাষ্ট্রদূত আলেকজান্ডার জেইগলার এবং অভিনেতা সৌমিত্র চট্টোপাধ্যায় সহ অন্যান্য বিশিষ্টজনেরা।
মেলা–প্রাঙ্গণে আলোকস্তম্ভ, ওয়াচ টাওয়ার লাগানো হয়েছে। বসেছে পথ–নির্দেশিকাও। মেলা–চত্বরে এবারও জনস্বাস্থ্য কারিগরি দপ্তরের উদ্যোগে থাকছে পাউচে পানীয় জলের ব্যবস্থা।বইমেলায় আসা বইপ্রেমীদের নিরাপত্তায় বেশ কিছু পদক্ষেপ করেছে বিধাননগর পুলিস। মানুষের যাতায়াতে ও মেলা–প্রাঙ্গণের ভেতরে–বাইরে যাতে অসুবিধে না হয়, তার জন্য নানা ব্যবস্থা করা হয়েছে। গাড়ি কোথায় পার্কিং করা যাবে? সেখানে জায়গা আছে কি? জেনে নেওয়া যাবে বিধাননগর পুরসভার নতুন অ্যাপ ‘IKBF-BMC Car Park’ থেকে।
এই প্রথম শিশুদের নিরাপত্তায় বিশেষ ব্যবস্থা থাকছে। কোনও শিশু হারিয়ে গেলে দ্রুত যাতে তার অভিভাবকের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করা যায়, তার জন্য থাকছে ‘চিলড্রেন কার্ড’। সেখানে শিশুর নাম, বয়স, অভিভাবকের নাম, তাঁর সঙ্গে সম্পর্ক এবং ফোন নম্বর লেখার জায়গা থাকবে। বইমেলায় ঢুকেই ওই কার্ড নিয়ে, পূরণ করে শিশুর পকেটে রেখে দিতে হবে।
নিরাপত্তা–নজরদারিতে বইমেলাকে ৪টি ‘জোনে’ ভাগ করা হয়েছে। ৮টি ওয়াচ টাওয়ার, সিসিটিভি–র মাধ্যমেও নজরদারি চলবে। ব্যাগ পরীক্ষা করা হবে। অস্ত্র নিয়ে ঢোকা যাবে না। মেলায় কোথায় কোন্ স্টল রয়েছে তা জেনে নেওয়া যাবে ‘International Kolkata Book Fair 2018’ অ্যাপ থেকে। ‘বইমেলা স্পেশ্যাল’ বাস পাওয়া যাবে ৯ নম্বর ট্যাঙ্কের কাছে খোলা জায়গা থেকে।বইমেলার দিনগুলোয় পরিবহণ দপ্তরের তরফে অতিরিক্ত ২০০টি সরকারি এসি, নন-এসি বাস চালানো হবে।
