Bengal CM announces salary hike for civic volunteers, ASHA and ICDS workers

As part of the celebrations on the occasion of Trinamool Congress completing seven years in power in Bengal, the State Government will increase the salaries of civic volunteers, and ASHA and ICDS workers. The increase would come into effect from October 1.
This was announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her speech at the felicitation ceremony for the Banga Bhushan and Banga Bighushan awards yesterday at Nazrul Mancha.
Civic volunteers are State Government employees, employed to assist the police in maintaining order, be it traffic or any other purpose. ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activists) and ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) workers, though appointed under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), are paid by the State Government.
The details of the increase, as announced by Mamata Banerjee, are as follows:
- For the 1.2 lakh civic volunteers, monthly salary would go up from Rs 5,500 to 8,000
- For the 50,000 ASHA workers, monthly salary would go up from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000
- For the 2.3 lakh ICDS workers, monthly salary would go up by Rs 1,000
These increases would help significantly in increasing the standards of living of these workers.
