Bangla Model for Panchayati Raj

The State Panchayats and Rural Development Department has done highly commendable work over the years of the Trinamool Congress Government. The MGNREGA Scheme in Bangla is implemented by this department, in which the State is the number one in the country, both in terms of money spent and person-days created.

Highlights of the department’s work in financial year 2018-19:

MGNREGA: With respect to the MGNREGA Scheme, Bangla has established itself as the highest achiever in the country. In 2017-18, the State generated 31.25 crore person-days, much more than any other State. In 2018-19 also, the State maintained its lead with 21.64 crore person-days generated by November 2018.

Bangla Awas Yojana: Till date, around Rs 5,867 crore has been released against a budget provision of Rs 1,080 crore from the budget of 2018-19, with 5,76,355 houses having being sanctioned in 2018-19

Bangla Gramin Sadak Yojana: In 2018-19, Rs 927 crore has been spent till October 2018 on the construction of 1,170 km of roads. The target for 2019-20 is completing 3,228 km.

Mission Nirmal Bangla: Five more districts, namely Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, South 24 Parganas and Cooch Behar were declared ODF in 2018-19. Malda, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman and Howrah districts are also going to be declared ODF districts within a very short time. It is expected that Bangla will achieve ODF status by March 31, 2019.

Anandadhara: Under this scheme, 6,74,472 all-women SHGs have been formed in the rural areas.

Credit-linking SHGs: Till October 2018, 37,353 upa-sanghas (gram sansad-level federation of SHGs) and 3,266 sanghas (gram panchayat-level federation of SHGs) were formed. Over 4.44 lakh SHGs were credit-linked in 2017-18, enabling them to access finance to the tune of Rs 8,155.97 crore. In 2018-19, till October 2018, 2,07,175 SHGs were credit-linked to the tune of Rs 4,504.50 crore; the plan is to reach 5,11,874 SHGs, giving them credit to the tune of Rs 12,374.78 crore.

National Award: Bangla has received the National Award for outstanding performance in SHG Bank Linkage.
