Bangla Govt ushers in massive change in agriculture & aquaculture

The Bangla Government has brought about significant improvement in the agriculture and aquaculture sectors. For the first time, the concept of aqua-retailing has also been introduced in the State.
This has become possible due to various social schemes introduced by the Trinamool Congress Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to improve the socio-economic conditions of farmers across the State.
There are more than 71 lakh families involved in the agriculture sector. The State records the highest amount of paddy production and comes second highest in potato production in the whole country.
Emphasis is being laid on the development of sustainable aquaculture in order to prevent death of fishes.
Compared to financial year (FY) 2010-11, the average annual income of farmers in FY 2017-18 went up threefold. According to the Agriculture Department, the average annual income of a farmer now stands at Rs 2.91 lakh, which was Rs 91,000 in 2010-11.
While the Centre aims at doubling the farmers’ income by 2022, the Bangla Government has already made possible increased in the income level by three times.
The government distributes certified seeds to farmers at 50 per cent subsidised rates and also gives a platform to farmers to sell off their produce directly at various State Government-managed outlets. As a result, the food production here has gone up by a huge margin.
