Bangla Govt to run 100 tourist properties

The State Tourism Department has set a target to develop and run as many as 100 properties in different parts of Bengal.

This was announced by the Tourism Minister recently at the inauguration of a tourism fair named ‘Weekend Wonders’, organised jointly by the department and the merchant body, BCCI.

He said that the work in this direction has already started – arrangements have been made for running more than 40 such properties. The respective district magistrates are also helping the department in this initiative.

Many of these properties would serve the purpose of weekend tourism, which has become very popular in recent years because of the widespread development of infrastructure – roads, bridges – and transport – AC and non-AC buses on several routes – by the Trinamool Congress Government.

A number of weekend spots have been emerging in the State. Bengal has a wide variety of tourist destinations that include the hills, the seas and the forests. There are also places of historical and religious interest.

Digha and the Sunderbans have always been a favourite weekend spots. Now, Purulia and Jhargram are catching up. The minister also mentioned that a bridge is coming up on the Hatania Doania river to reduce travel time to Bakkhali, which is another major destination for sea lovers, and a stopover for nearby destinations like Henry’s Island, Frasergunj and Sagar Island.
