Bangla Govt to provide rice-planting machines for every subdivision that grows paddy

In a bid to further increase the income of the farmers, the Bangla Government has decided to provide two rice-planting machines, free of cost, to every subdivision that grows paddy.

The machines would make the work of farmers much easier. A bigha of land can be sowed in just 15 minutes. Hence more paddy can now be planted. The machines would help in increasing the income of farmers by Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,500 per bigha.

Earlier, the State Agriculture Department had started pilot projects in the districts of Cooch Behar, Malda and Murshidabad (Raghunathganj block). The success of those projects has convinced the Government on the large-scale usage of these machines.

Each machine costs around Rs 2.9 lakh. Being costly, the initial plan is to keep two such machines in the Custom Hiring Centres at the farms of the Agriculture Department in each subdivision. Farmers can take it to their plots to sow paddy seeds without paying anything. They just need to bear the transportation cost of the machine from the farm to their plots.

The State Government would be giving a subsidy of Rs 1.16 lakh to help farmers to buy a machine.
