Bangla Govt to increase agri loans for farmers

The state co-operative is going to increase the amount of agricultural credit given to farmers in the State, so that they do not face any hardship due to the ongoing financial crisis in the country. Not only farmers, self help groups will also be given additional credit. The Chief Minister has directed the department to increase the amount of agricultural loans by Rs 2,000 crore for agricultural loans.

In the current financial year, agricultural loans worth Rs 8,000 crore were given to farmers. In the next financial year, it has been proposed to raise the amount to Rs 10,000 crore. Bank credit worth Rs 1200 crore was given to the self-help groups last year by the department. This time it has been proposed to increase the amount by Rs 300 crore. At the same time, the Co-operative Department has decided to create self-help groups in urban areas, along with rural.

Farmers in the State suffered heavy losses due to floods before Durga Pujo and the Cyclone Bulbul thereafter. So, the Co-operative Department has decided to take special measures to help farmers. The department has been instructed to ensure farmers get the money for crop insurance.
