Bangla Govt creating mangrove forest in Bulbul-affected areas

Thousands of trees, houses, agricultural lands were affected in vast areas of Sundarbans in South 24 Parganas due to Cyclone Bulbul. The mangrove forests were also affected. After visiting the affected areas Bangla Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had instructed the district to provide all facilities to the affected people and to plant more mangrove trees.
As per her instructions, local officials have already started planting mangroves in affected areas. Additionally, different types of trees for fruits and wood are also being planted. Coconut and palm trees are being planted to prevent thunderstorms. Government officials are engaging women workers under 100 Days’ Work for this work in affected areas.
Ten lakh Mangrove seedlings has been produced in nurseries, set up in the villages of district along river banks. Women with job cards are doing the plantation work. Mangroves have been already planted on 50 hectares area.
