Adivasi Utsav in January 2019
The Bangla Government has decided hold multi-sports tournaments in the Adivasi-dominated blocks on January 12, 13 and 14, 2019. This was announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at a public meeting in Paschim Medinipur district recently.
In a unique gesture, the tournaments will be named according to the majority language of the area they are held in. Hence, the names of the tournaments will be in Santhali (using Ol Chiki script), Kurmali, Kurmi and other languages.
At the meeting, she also asked officials to ensure that Adivasis get adequate work under the 100 Days’ Work Scheme.
She said that during the Left regime, Adivasis were not taken proper care of. But after the Trinamool Congress Government came to power, there has been much improvement in every aspect, be it work, education, sports or any other field.
