25 Things Mamata Banerjee said at Trinamool candidate list announcement

All India Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee announced the names of the party’s candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Speaking on the occasion, she said there is an atmosphere of fear in the country.

Highlights of Mamata Banerjee’s press conference:

I want to thank the Maa, Mati, Manush of Bangla. My greetings to all.

My best wishes to the young generation and new voters.

I pay homage to the jawans who lost their lives for the security of the country, and people who lost their lives in the last five years

We are committed to maintaining the communal harmony and unity of the country

The government has failed in the last five years. Employment has increased, farmers are committing suicide.

Farmers, Adivasis, Dalits, women are being persecuted. The youth are being harassed and neglected

Institutions have been politicised. An atmosphere of fear has been created.

Undeclared emergency is worse than declared emergency

The Constitution has been destroyed for political reasons

Seeds of division and hatred are being sown. People are being discriminated against.

Gau-raksha and lynching syndicates have been created in the country. They should feel ashamed.

Crores of rupees are being spent to spread fake news. Media is not being allowed to function

The situation in the country is unprecedented. This is a challenging election.

In the name of strikes, extremism is being promoted with ulterior political motives

RBI had not given a go-ahead to demonetisation. I was the first one to call it a disaster. People want answers

Why did so many jawans die in Pulwama? Why did Uri and Pathankot attacks take place? Terrorism has increased 260%, although they claimed demonetisation will put an end to terrorism?

We should ensure that VIPs don’t bring money through chartered flights and helicopters to purchase the voters.

About 41% candidates this time are women. In 2014, we had 35% women MPs.

Why is BJP so scared that they have had to space out the vote in Bengal?

We have no understanding as yet (for alliance) but our doors are open for any one against the BJP. We will back the regional parties in other States against the BJP

19 May, 2019 will be the end of Modi’s rule. A person who has instilled a sense of fear among the people must go. This is our challenge

Congress and CPI(M) have fought against us traditionally. We have ideological differences. But at national level, there can be an understanding
The BJP is asking other parties to loan them candidates

We have to take care of all communities, all castes, all religions. It can be done. Our first priority would be jobs, growth, and peace

BJP has a lot of money – we have limits in advertising, travel, meetings. They have money from foreign countries, we don’t. Since 1995, we have been fighting for electoral reforms.
