25 things Mamata Banerjee said at the extended core committee meeting
The meeting of extended core committee of All India Trinamool Congress was held today at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata. The main speaker was Mamata Banerjee.
Speaking at the meeting, Mamata Banerjee laid down a roadmap for the future. She instructed party workers and leaders to gear up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
MPs, MLAs, ministers and other elected representatives were present at the meeting today.
Highlights of the Chief Minister’s speech:
We have units in several states. Our leaders must keep in touch with the interested people in these states.
In the name of NRC, people are being persecuted in Assam. People have been killed. Bobby Hakim is the observer for Assam. Few days ago a delegation comprising Derek O’Brien, Mamata Bala Thakur, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Mahua Moitra went to Assam to meet the persecuted families. Earlier, our delegation was not allowed to enter the state.
We want the Hindu and Muslim Bengalis in Assam to be united. We do not want any divisive politics. We are not against Assamese people. We love them. We want Assam to prosper. We want everyone to be happy. In the name of NRC, Bengalis, Biharis, Nepalis are being evicted from Assam. They are living there for 50-60 years. They are citizens of India. The names of someone’s father is in the list, but mother’s name is missing. Someone’s son features in the list but daughter’s name is not there. The situation is so bad that 31 people have committed suicide.
India is a united country. We all have to live together in harmony. People of Assam must strengthen their protests. We will support them.
We have set up Namashudra Development Council. A Matua Development Council is coming up. I appeal to you to be united. We have given recognition to Rajbongshi, Kamtapuri, Ol Chiki, Kurukh, Gurmukhi – all languages. We have given them recognition because we love people. We work for everyone.
A leader must always be with the people, not sit in his room. A leader is known by their actions. We will not tolerate any lobbying. You must always be with the people, or else you cannot be a part of Trinamool. We cannot compromise on this.
Trinamool is our pride. Trinamool stands for struggle, people’s movement. Trinamool stands for Maa-Mati-Manush.
We are forming a committee for Adivasis. Deb Kumar Tudu will be the chairman of the committee.
I would request Trinamool Youth Congress to develop an app for online donation. It will go live on January 1, the foundation day of the party. People can pay any amount (Rs 10, Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 500) as per their capacity.
The winter session of West Bengal Assembly is starting today and will continue till November 29. Party will confiscate the salaries of those MLAs who do not come to the Assembly despite whip. We will consider if someone is unwell or has an emergency situation at home. When I was an MP, I used to reach the Parliament at 9 AM. Remember, your post will not exist if the party does not exist.
Be alert when EVMs are being tested. If necessary, get them checked 3 times. If party sends 2 people, 2 more should go just to cross-check. BJP will tamper with 40% EVMs. In Maheshtala bypoll 60 EVMs had malfunctioned. Those who do not adhere to party’s instructions will have to face the music. Take care of the voters’ list revision. Six lakh voters are added to the rolls every year. We must reach out to them.
We do not have funds worth crores like the BJP. We do not compromise in lieu of money. We do not need cut-money from the government to run our party.
They do not have people’s support. They are luring people with the promise of free bikes. There is massive corruption across the country. They are spending crores on publicity. They would not need so much propaganda if they practised honest politics.
Will we resort to dacoity to fight elections? If we sell CDs of songs, or sell paintings, they call us thieves.
Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu has done the right thing in saying that he won’t allow Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in his state. We will also do the same in our state. We will cross-check the laws. They are giving instructions to the agencies from their party offices. From CBI to RBI – they have turned the institutions into disasters.
BJP is history changer, name changer, note changer, institution changer but not game changer. The country is in danger. They (BJP) project as if they have given birth to the nation but they were nowhere during independence. They are policy changer, planning commission changer, institution changer. They are destroying the Constitution and the federal structure.
The CPI(M) talks against the BJP elsewhere and has an understanding with them here. We have seen in the panchayat polls, Ram and Bam are one. They have given up their ideology. They are practising politics of compromise, bereft of principles. CPI(M) has sold itself to the BJP. They have become a signboard. People will teach them a lesson.
BJP will themselves become a statue, thanks to their statue-making spree. The country will heave a sigh of relief if that happens. We want them to go, so that the country can be saved. We must fight for this.
I believe in the power of Maa-Mati-Manush. We are nothing without them. The youths and students must take an active part. Women must take active part in the party’s activities. We have given 50% reservation to women in the panchayats. We are the only party with 33% women MPs in Lok Sabha. We must give priority to women.
There will be one party office in every region. Party office is our Temple, Mosque, Gurudwara, Church. There can be no disputes regarding party office. No one must fight to become a bigger leader. You have one identity – Trinamool.
Trinamool respects all religions equally. We perform puja as well as roza. We also celebrate Guru Nanak’s birthday.
When Trinamool was formed, people thought we will not last long. We have now become a banyan tree. We will play a big role to save the country in future.
We do not like boasting about power but we know how to use power with responsibility to serve people. This is our pride.
We have to win 42 out of 42 seats in Bangla. I have heard a lot of money is being spent in some areas. But we have the support of people – from the Hills to the tea gardens, Bengalis as well as non-Bengalis. We have to work for all. Only then we will attain victory.
Let us take a pledge today. We have to take entire India along in the coming days. Jai Hind. Vande Mataram. Khuda Hafiz.
