1.01 crore labourers benefitted by Samajik Suraksha Scheme in 7 years
Over the last seven years, the Samajik Suraksha Scheme has benefitted 1.01 crore people. This is in comparison to the 26 lakh benefitted under the same scheme from 2000 to 2011, during the rule of the Left Front Government.
This was stated by the State Labour Minister in reply to a question in the Assembly during the Winter Session.
Giving other comparable data, he said that while Rs 9 crore was spent by the Left Front Government on this scheme, Rs 1,724 has been spent by the Trinamool Government till now.
From 2011 till October 31, 2018, under the various schemes of the Labour Department, more than 5.67 crore people have received benefits. Part of this number of people is the almost 75 lakh unorganised labour subscribed by the Labour Commissionerate.
Under the ESI scheme, 4.81 crore have attended OPD and 5.72 lakh admitted themselves in hospitals.
The department has spent a total of Rs 3718 crore 51 lakh.
All work related to both organised and unorganised labour is done online, at SSY – Samajik Suraksha Yojana. It may be mentioned that it was under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that all labour-related schemes were brought under one umbrella.
