Remarkable improvement in higher education sector in Bangla

The State’s Higher Education Sector has witnessed remarkable activities in the last eight years.
Universities
30 universities (20 State and 10 private) now in the State, as compared to 12 up to 2011
Eight more State-aided universities being set up
The eight are: Biswa Bangla University, Bolpur, Jhargram University, Jhargram, Rani Rashmoni Green University, Hooghly, Mahatma Gandhi University, Tamluk, Purba Medinipur, Darjeeling Hills University, Mungpoo, Darjeeling, Alipurduar University, Alipurduar, Dakshin Dinajpur University, Balurghat and Murshidabad University, Berhampore, Murshidabad
Another two State-aided universities announced by the chief minister, namely, Harichand Guruchand University, Bongaon, North 24 Parganas and Kanyashree University, Krishnanagar, Nadia
Colleges
Total number of sponsored colleges is 450, government colleges is 57 and government engineering colleges is 8
Two government-sponsored colleges set up in Darjeeling district taking the
Government engineering college under construction in Alipurduar district
Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme
Poor and meritorious students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses getting benefit of this scholarship
Budget for the scholarship scheme increased to Rs 200 crore
Financial support extended to full-time non-NET scholars pursuing MPhil and PhD, and to Kanyashree beneficiaries (girls) pursuing higher studies
Enrolment in higher education
Enrolment in higher education institutions (HEI) rose from 13.24 lakh in FY 2011 to 20.36 lakh in FY 2018
Gross enrolment ratio in higher education rose from 12.4 in FY 2011 to 18.70 in FY 2018
Female gender ratio in higher education enrolment rose from 42% in FY 2011 to 47.3% in FY 2017
