Bangla Govt to formulate refugee policy

The Bangla Cabinet on March 7, 2019, decided to form a committee of ministers to chalk out a detailed policy for the development of the refugees settled in colonies set up on State and Central Government land.
In January this year, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had given freehold land rights to the residents of 94 refugee colonies set up on State Government plots and had promised a similar arrangement for the residents of 237 colonies that stand on private and Central Government land.
The State Government has already written to the Centre, and will write again, regarding giving freehold land rights to those settled on Central Government land and buying the plots from the private owners on which refugees are settled.
At present, 30,000 refugee families have land pattas by means of which they will become the owners of the plots. The rest will get the pattas as soon as the Centre gives permission.
The Trinamool Congress-led government has taken several measures to ensure the all-round development of the refugees in the State. Following the instruction of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, various works have already been initiated for their socio-economic development.
