Mirik to be developed as tourist destination
Mirik, a picturesque town in the Hills, will be developed as a tourist destination. This is one of Chief Minister’s dream projects for the Hills. Already, plans are afoot to build the requisite infrastructure.
A sunrise point near Mirik College, Youth Hostel near Mirik Lake, home stay facilities in nearby villages, 100-bed hospital are some of the initiatives being taken.
The tourism minister said, “We want Mirik to feature prominently on the tourism map. The work is in progress.”
As Darjeeling and Kalimpong are becoming congested, tourists are looking for newer destinations to travel to in the Hills. Sitong, Lava, Rheshyap, Chatakpur have already become very popular. CM has similar plans to develop Mirik.
The municipal chairman of Mirik said, “We are developing the infrastructure as per CM’s guidance. We will develop the roads, drinking water supply and drainage system also.”
