CBI being misused by BJP for political gains: Mamata Banerjee

Bangla Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for political gains.

“The CBI has been repeatedly misused by the BJP, which is trying to use the probe agency for political gains and turn it into ‘His Master’s Voice’,” she said, referring to the fiasco surrounding Alok Verma, the former director of the agency who was removed from his position by a high-powered committee on Thursday.

“The BJP is destroying institutions like the CBI and the RBI,” she added.

She also said that ‘super emergency’ is going on in the country. Accusing the Centre of interfering in State’s affairs, the CM said that the federal structure was being demolished.

On the NRC issue, she said, ” I have no problem about the safety and security of the country. But if you want to throw out genuine people, the real citizens become homeless. In Bengal, everyone from other states are staying. Any Indian can stay and work in any state.”

The CM added, “What happened in Gujarat? Biharis, UPites have been chased away. In Assam, in the name of NRC, Biharis, UPites, Tamilians, have been chased out. Even 23 lakh Bengali Hindus as well. All this shows that the intention is very bad.”

She also said, “We are with the people of Assam and Tripura. Whenever helpless people from there require help, we will give it.”
