Improved flood management system in 3 district

The State Government has decided to re-configure the flood management systems in the districts of Howrah, Hooghly and Birbhum in a major way in the earlier part of 2019. This was announced by the Irrigation Minister recently while inaugurating four projects in Amta-2 block, Howrah district.

The three-stage flood management project is going to come up with the help of a financial assistance of Rs 2,600 crore from the World Bank.

A series of short-cut diversion canals are going to be built which would be able to hold 30,000 cubic feet per second (cusec) of water.

The four projects inaugurated by the minister were

600m of riverbank repair of Rupnarayan River in Ghoraberia Chitnan gram panchayat, at a cost of Rs 1,95,55,000

Anti-bank erosion work for short-cut diversion canal in Khalna Kashmali gram panchayat, at a cost of Rs 96.54 lakh

Relaying of 19.9km of pitched roads along the dams on both banks of short-cut diversion canal in Khalna Kashmali gram panchayat, at a cost of Rs 3,94,70,000

Anti-bank erosion work along 500m on left bank of Gaighata Canal in Kushberia gram panchayat, at a cost of Rs 1,65,35,000
