Coming soon: 30-km Contai-Digha marine highway
A 30-km highway along the beach from Contai to Digha has been planned by the State Government. Three bridges will also be constructed along the route.
After starting from Contai, the road will move through Mandarmani, Tajpur and Sankarpur, to end in Digha. The bridges would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 130 crore.
This road, dubbed a marine drive, would help tourism immensely as it would reduce the travel time along that route. There has been a boom in tourist footfall in Digha and the nearby beach towns due to the hard work put in by the Trinamool Congress Government in the last seven years.
The marine drive is a brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The State Public Works Department (PWD) will supervise the overall work.
