Industrial parks creating effective business & employment opportunities for small businesses

The industrial parks coming up in Bangla – bother the ones the Trinamool Congress Government is setting up and the ones being set up by private companies, enabled by the State Government’s pro-industry policies –are creating opportunities for various businesses, especially in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector, to showcase and retail their products, and thus generate more and more employment.
This was said by the Finance, Industry and MSME&T Minister, Dr Amit Minister while addressing the inaugural programme at the 17th India International Mega Trade Fair (IITMF) at Science City in Kolkata on Saturday, December 16.
He said that through the industrial parks, the State MSME&T Department is creating a value chain to facilitate small and medium businessmen in retailing their products. The problem lies in their inability to retail their manufactured products in a proper manner, and the government is enabling them to showcase and retail their products.
Several such products are also at the stage of development, and will reach fruition soon. Citing examples, he said that the garment park spanning over nine lakh square feet at Nangi in South 24 Parganas will boost the ready-made garment industry. Those associated with the garment business and its allied sectors in Metiabruz, a hub of ready-made businesses, can showcase and retail their products easily through the garment park
He said that leather and apparel are two important sectors which can generate opportunities, and the State Government is helping them too, with new parks both in the government and private sector. Twenty lakh people are already employed in the textile sector and in the next few years, with the operationalizing of these industry parks, the number would shoot up to at least 30 lakhs.
The government is up with eight government parks and the private sector with six. The six being developed in the private sector include a hosiery park in Jagadishpur, Howrah, an apparel park in Mahisbathan, near Salt Lake, and SME industrial park in Ankurhati, Howrah, a textile park in Kona, Howrah and a garments park in Barasat, North 24 Parganas, in two phases.
Dr Mitra further reiterated that the government holds meetings directly with stakeholders from time to time so that the infrastructure turns beneficial for the businesses.
