KMC looks to bring up electric charging stations

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is going to set up charging points for electric vehicles (EV) across Kolkata. This is a major plan towards turning Kolkata into a ‘Green City’, something Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is keen to see the urban bodies in Bangla achieve.
This project will encourage the use of more electric vehicles, which will contribute significantly in bringing down air pollution.
The KMC will be implementing the project in collaboration with the private electricity supplier for Kolkata, CESC.
It may be mentioned in this context that Newtown has already received the Gold rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for being a Green City, and is now seeking Platinum status.
Newtown Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has come up with as many as 10 charging points at strategic locations in Newtown, with the aim to reduce carbon emissions and move towards a cleaner, greener sustainable environment.
